HK Weather ("we", "our", or "the app") is a free weather application for Hong Kong. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our app.

Location Data

With your permission, the app accesses your device's location to identify the nearest weather station and display localised weather information. Location data is:

Used only within the app to find your nearest weather station
Never stored on our servers
Never shared with third parties (except as described in the Advertising section below)

Weather Data

The app fetches publicly available weather data from the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) Open Data API and the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) API. No personal data is involved in these requests.

2. Advertising

The app uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. Google AdMob may collect and use certain information from your device, including:

Advertising identifiers (e.g. Android Advertising ID)
Device information (e.g. device model, OS version)
IP address

This information is used to serve relevant advertisements. We request non-personalised ads only. For more information, please refer to Google's Privacy Policy.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit:

Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
Your precise or historical location data
Any usage analytics or crash reports to our own servers

4. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services:

Hong Kong Observatory Open Data API — for weather data (www.hko.gov.hk)
AQHI API — for air quality data (www.aqhi.gov.hk)
Google AdMob — for in-app advertising (Google Privacy Policy)
Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — for reverse geocoding your location to a locality name (OSM Privacy Policy)

5. Permissions

The app requests the following permissions:

ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — to find your nearest weather station. This is optional; the app works without it.
INTERNET — to fetch weather data from HKO APIs.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS — to send weather alert notifications (optional).
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED / FOREGROUND_SERVICE — to enable background weather updates and notifications.

6. Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
